Abbey Centoporte from which the resort takes its name is intimately linked to the history of the monastery of San Nicola de hydruntino Casulis, an important center of the Italian Greek culture, known for its important library, among the richest in Europe. Dedicated to SS. Martyrs Cosmas and Damian, the abbey was called "Of Centoporte" because of the large number of windows owned building. The abbey was never entirely completed and was reused as the core of a monastic complex probably from the seventh century onwards.
